AC joint injuries
Recognizing and specifically treating acromioclavicular joint injuriess
Verletzungen des Schultereckgelenks (AC-Gelenk)

Injuries to the acromioclavicular joint - also known as AC (acromioclavicular) joint injuries - often occur in the event of falls on the shoulder or direct force. Athletes involved in contact sports or sports with an increased risk of falling (biking, skiing, etc.) are particularly at risk. The AC joint connects the collarbone to the shoulder blade and plays a central role in stabilizing the shoulder.
Typical symptoms are swelling, visible malalignment (elevation of the outer end of the collarbone) and pain when moving, especially when raising the arm above shoulder height. Depending on the severity of the injury - from minor strains to complete ligament tears - different treatment approaches are necessary.
In mild cases, conservative treatment with immobilization, physiotherapy and pain therapy or infiltration into the AC joint is often sufficient.
In the case of more severe injuries, especially if joint stability is impaired, surgery may be necessary to stabilize the joint. If you have pain in the area of the acromioclavicular joint (AC joint) or feel insecure after an injury, we are here to help you with our experience. A targeted diagnosis is the first step towards the right treatment.
