Shoulder dislocation and shoulder instability

The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the human body. At the same time, this mobility also makes it particularly susceptible to instability and dislocation. A shoulder dislocation, i.e. the complete dislocation of the joint, is often the result of an accident or a sudden force. Repeated dislocations are referred to as chronic shoulder instability.
After the first dislocation, a feeling of insecurity often remains in the shoulder. Sporting activities or even everyday movements can lead to renewed dislocation. In the long term, this instability can lead to cartilage damage, joint wear and premature instability arthrosis of the shoulder joint.
Modern shoulder surgery offers effective treatment options. Depending on the extent of the instability, arthroscopic procedures are used in which injured structures such as the joint capsule or the labrum (joint lip) are reconstructed. If there is a large bone defect in the socket or if you suffer from recurrent instability, bone block operations are often necessary where a bone block is inserted into the socket defect to restore the natural shape of the socket and thus the natural stability of the joint and prevent future dislocations.
