Causes, symptoms and treatment options

Biceps tendon problems in the shoulder joint

Bizepssehnenprobleme Schulter

Overloading, degenerative changes or injuries can lead to irritation, inflammation or even tears of the long biceps tendon in the shoulder joint - common causes of shoulder pain in the anterior shoulder joint area.

Typical symptoms are pulling or stabbing pain at the front of the shoulder joint, which increases with certain movements, such as lifting or rotating the arm. In some cases, a clearly audible snapping or loss of strength in the arm can also be felt. Active people and athletes with overhead loads are particularly affected.

Treatment depends on the extent of the damage. In the early stages, conservative measures such as anti-inflammatory medication or targeted injections often help. If symptoms persist or structural damage occurs, surgery may be necessary - for example a tenodesis (fixation of the tendon) or a tenotomy (cutting of the tendon), depending on age, activity level and individual requirements.

If you suffer from shoulder pain or a loss of strength in your arm, we will precisely determine the cause and find the right treatment for you.
