Dr. med. Matthias Schenkel

Dr. med. Matthias Schenkel
is a renowned specialist in orthopaedic surgery and musculoskeletal trauma, with a focus on shoulder and elbow surgery. He is the founder of ORTHOZUERICH in Zurich.
His expertise includes arthroscopic and open surgery of the shoulder and elbow joints, including joint replacement (endoprosthetics), rotator cuff reconstruction, and treatment of shoulder instability. He also has extensive experience in the specialized trauma care of the upper extremities.
Dr. Schenkel studied medicine in Zurich and also completed his doctorate at the University of Zurich. He obtained specialist qualifications in general surgery (2006) and in orthopaedic surgery and traumatology of the musculoskeletal system (2011). His clinical career has taken him to the Waid and Triemli City Hospitals as a senior physician and to the Aarau Cantonal Hospital as team leader for shoulder and elbow surgery.
In addition to his medical career, Dr. Schenkel was a professional ice hockey player in the National League A from 1990 to 2001 and later served as team physician for the GCK Lions ice hockey team.
